Ever have a manager ask you for details about your Macs that requires you, the Jamf Pro admin, to generate a report like right, right now? PowerBI is a powerful tool that allows others to view critical information about your Apple devices without needing permissions or access to Jamf Pro. A dashboard that is aesthetically pleasing, easy to manipulate and gives results at a glance saves you time and gives your managers the information they need to make decisions in a snap. This session will show how to use the PowerBI integration provided by Jamf. In this session, a step-by-step process will show how to manipulate data from Jamf in PowerBI, build visual dashboards and how to publish the dashboard to the web for consumption by whomever you deem. This session builds on the excellent PowerBI video modules published by Jamf and includes specific hints and tricks to build some beautiful, interactive dashboards to show off your Apple environment. At Iowa State University we've used PowerBI to give up-to-date information to our leadership and other parties with a real-time view of our Apple environment. For example, they can see at a glance how many Macs and iOS devices we manage, device age, OS versions, FileVault encryption status, and the geo-location of our devices across the world. We have approximately 50 sites in our Jamf Pro environment. By using sliders in PowerBI, we can let our site administrators look at data pertinent just to the site they manage. This doesn't require our admins to learn how to create reports on their own. We've also used the information to determine which Macs may have a hardware fault that we need to rectify, such as those failing batteries. We also use it to make decisions on software licensing based on application installs.
